Daypack: The backpack for every day

The perfect companion for everyday life, short hikes and excursions: a daypack is the ideal rucksack for everyday life. You can use it for everyday life, but a daypack is also usually well suited for day hikes, ski tours or city trips.

Daypacks: space for everything you need for the day

Keys, rain jacket, something to eat and drink? You can easily store everything you need for the day in your daypack. If you also want to use your daypack for work or university , it's best to look for a backpack with a laptop compartment. A4 documents and folders should then also fit into the daypack without any problems. In general, small inner and outer pockets help you to organise small items and keep your daypack tidy.

Volume of daypacks

Capacity of daypacks: As a rule, a daypack has a capacity of 10 to 30 litres . Models with 10 to 20 litres are probably sufficient for smaller trips. Large daypacks with a capacity of 30 litres can sometimes even fit the luggage for a weekend trip.

The carrying system of daypacks

Daypacks are available in many different designs: Fashionable daypacks with narrow shoulder straps for everyday use in the city can often be converted into a shoulder bag or carrier bag. If you are looking for a daypack that can also be used for hiking, then you should look for wide, padded shoulder straps and an adjustable hip belt. A chest strap is also useful if you want to hike with your daypack. This allows you to optimally distribute the weight and relieve the strain on your back. A mesh on the back prevents the backpack from resting directly on your back. This allows air to circulate between the backpack and your back - which prevents sweat stains.

Daypack for everyday use vs. daypack for hiking - what you should look out for:

Exactly what features your daypack should have depends largely on how you want to use it. A daypack for hiking has to fulfil completely different requirements than a daypack that is only worn for a short time during the day.

If you are looking for a daypack for short hikes and outdoor tours, we recommend paying attention to the following:

  • Outer pockets for snacks, sunglasses & co.
  • Possibly a separate outer compartment for a water bottle (so you always have it to hand) or even a hydration system?
  • Carrying system with padded shoulder straps, adjustable hip belt and chest strap
  • Mesh on the back for better ventilation
  • An integrated rain cover can be very practical to keep the contents of the daypack dry even in the rain

However, if you are looking for a daypack for everyday use, completely different factors are important:

  • If you need the daypack for university or work: Possibly a separate laptop compartment and space for A4 documents
  • Small inner pockets to store keys, wallet & co. clearly organised
  • Do you want to use the daypack for shopping? Then it should offer as much volume as possible - some daypacks can also be converted into a carrier bag

Daypacks for women, men and children

Backpack for men or women? There are also special women's models of daypacks. Here, the carrying system is specially adapted to the female anatomy, making it more comfortable for women to carry. Of course, women can also carry men's backpacks, but a women's daypack will generally offer more comfort, especially on long hikes.

A daypack is also perfect for children as a companion for excursions and activities. Make sure that the daypack for children is particularly lightweight and ideally has integrated reflectors. This makes it easier for the little ones to be seen in traffic, even in the dark. Daypacks for children are also available with trendy motifs and patterns.
