Salewa Manufacturer information

Today, the Salewa eagle is the godfather of unmistakable quality in mountain sports. When Josef Liebhard founded Salewa GmbH in Munich in 1935, various leather and textile goods, backpacks with tubular steel frames and hazelnut ski poles were among the first products manufactured. And it was the ski poles with which the company made its breakthrough in the sports sector after the war. In the winter of 1952, the demand for ski poles literally exploded. In addition to backpacks, leather footballs and motorcycle tank bags and wholesale activities were added.

Salewa: equipment for mountain sports

Through the equipment of an expedition to the Andes, the manufacturer finally established itself in mountain sports. It only took a few years for Salewa to underpin its claim to leadership in the hard goods sector by producing adjustable lightweight crampons.
In the 1980s, the Italian importer Heiner Oberrauch took over the Salewa brand and built up an international distribution network. Since then, the company's own companies have been responsible for the seven important European markets of Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Poland, Switzerland and Spain.

Salewa alpineXtrem Team

With the beginning of the new millennium, the Salewa brand has reached a new dimension. This is reflected in the development of its own athlete squad, the international Salewa alpineXtrem Team, as well as in the development and continuous improvement of top products.
Salewa recognized the trend towards ever lighter products at an early stage. As early as 1994, the motto "half weight – double resistance" was declared a research goal. In 2001, Salewa pushed the research further and developed its own lightweight collection.
