Trangia was founded in 1925 by E. Jonsson, whose passion for technology and zeal as a designer was evident early on. He threw away his life as a farmer and decided with his father-in-law to start a company that would lead the Swedish windproof stove industry for generations. They started with everyday household pots made of aluminium. In the 1930s the demand for camping equipment increased and Trangia focused on developing products for cooking.
First prototype
In 1938, John's sons Olle and Erik started working at Trangia and in 1951 they developed the first prototype of the Trangia stove system with their father. The idea behind it was to build a complete and compact cooking system using liquid fuel, which was the most efficient and easiest to use. In the 1970s Erik's sons, Bengt and Lennart, also joined the company and actively supported Trangia. Today Bengt is the CEO and Lennart is responsible for technical developments. The company has been passed down through generations, but the 4th generation started to play a leading role.
The name
Trangia is derived from the village Trång. John decided to remove the circle above the a and insert an "ia" for "in aluminium". The name is one of the strongest brands in Sweden and internationally. Trangia stands for long experimentation, solid expertise and modern design. During its 60th birthday, the Trangia stove was developed and improved. It is still manufactured in Sweden.
