Lowa Manufacturer information

The success story of the hiking and mountain boot manufacturer Lowa began 90 years ago in the Upper Bavarian town of Jetzendorf with purely handmade "zwiegenlschuhen" oat shoes. Lorenz Wagner took over his parents' business in 1923 and founded Lowa. His brothers Hans and Adolf had set up their own business shortly before with the Hanwag brand.

Lowa beginnings with laced ski boots and mountain boots

The first production building was erected in the 30s. Laced ski boots and mountain boots for mountain hunters were the focus of production. After the death of the company founder, Wagner's daughter Berti and her husband Josef Lederer took over the company and gradually expanded the product range in the spirit of the founder. Lowa developed into a successful ski boot manufacturer in the 70s and 80s. Lowa set innovative accents with the Air-System, which ensured an optimal fit thanks to air cushioning.

Lowa trekking shoes

In 1982 the company celebrated the birth of trekking shoes when the Trekker model was launched. Due to financial difficulties and Problems, Lowa Sportschuhe GmbH was sold to the Italian Tecnica Group in 1993. Werner Riethmann, managing director since 1992 became co-owner (then 10 percent, now 20 percent). Since then, Lowa has experienced steady growth as one of the most important outdoor shoe manufacturers in the world.

Lowa produces in Upper Bavaria

Jetzendorf remains the production site in Germany and is home to management and research and development. Lowa is the market leader in the German-speaking countries as well as in the Benelux countries and is continuously expanding its importance in the most important export markets of North America, Asia and Eastern Europe. The strategy of manufacturing almost 100 percent in Germany and Europe and focusing on the Jetzendorf site proves to be an unbroken model of success.

2010: Sales of more than 2 million pairs of Lowa shoes

Customers appreciate the combination of tradition and innovation and value the functionality, quality and fit of Lowa shoes. Mountain boots and Trekking shoes continue to be manufactured in Jetzendorf. In 2010, the company reached a historic milestone and sold more than two Million pairs of shoes.

Lowa base material: leather

When it comes to the upper/lining material, Lowa only uses high-quality leather and synthetic materials. The leather that is used in Lowa shoes comes exclusively from cattle of European origin and is naturally free of harmful substances. Whether soft border leather, supple lining leather, stable upper leather - everything is made from the same basic product.
